Care Guide

CARE GUIDE

Brass, being an affordable metal compared to other fine metals, is an alloy which naturally will oxidise in time due to the copper content within. You might notice a green mark on your fingers due to wearing brass rings, this is a very common thing to occur in any brass jewellery. The brass we are using, according to our manufacturer's website is made of 80% copper, 15% zinc, and 5% tin.

All our brass jewellery is PU coated to add a layer of protection and delay the process of oxidisation. However, the rate of oxidisation depends on a lot of factors varying from conditions of use to body chemistry. The good news is there are so many ways to take good care and polish your jewellery to look shiny again.

HOW TO TAKE CARE

  • Try to keep away from water and chemicals (perfume, sunscreen, etc).  This will cause your brass jewellery to oxidize faster.
  • Humidity is not a friend either, so try to store your jewellery in non-humid environments.
  • Keeping it in an airtight bag after removing all the excess air would also delay oxidisation.

HOW TO CLEAN AND POLISH

Method 1: Polishing Cloth

We provide a small size polishing cloth with every brass jewellery you buy from us. This is an impregnated cloth with polish liquid in it. So, do not wash the cloth. When you notice any darkening on your jewellery, just try to buff it with the cloth as soon as possible so it stops the tarnishing go any further. Please try to do this periodically so it always looks great!

Method 2: Home ingredients

  1. Wash your brass jewellery with warm water and mild soap to get rid of any dirt or oils.
  2. Then you can use household ingredients like lemon+baking soda, salt+vinegar etc. You can apply these with a soft cloth or make the jewellery wait in the paste for some time. (Be careful not to scratch it.) The acids help break the bonds of copper-oxide and remove the greening.
  3. After you are done, wash it with warm water and dry with a soft cloth.
  4. Finally you need to coat it again to delay oxidisation. You can apply wax on it, make it stay for a couple of hours and remove the excess wax with a dry soft cloth. You can buff it again later on with a soft cloth like a glass cleaning cloth, apply more strength to it and it will shine more.

Method 3: Polishing Liquid

If your jewellery is tarnished really badly, there are still ways to revive it back! You can buy a polishing liquid and apply it as instructed.
